The metro is useful once you are in Bucharest, but a station name is not always the same as the destination on a train or coach ticket. The existing network has lines M1–M5; airport line M6 is not yet in passenger operation. Use the operator map to choose the right direction.
Follow these steps
- Find the right lineUse the Metrorex official map, not an image that includes future lines as if they were open. Metro lines M1, M2, M3, M4 and M5 cover different corridors.
- Know the major transfer pointsPiața Unirii, Piața Victoriei and Eroilor are important interchange areas. Read signs for the correct line and destination before entering platforms.
- Arriving at Gara de Nord? The rail terminal has access to the city metro system. Check whether your journey requires Gara de Nord 1 or Gara de Nord 2, as mapped by Metrorex.
- Going to a coach station? For Autogara Militari, the nearby Păcii metro station is on M3. Still check the actual address on the coach ticket and the final walking direction.
Metro M6 (1 Mai–Otopeni Airport) is not a live airport connection. For travel to OTP use airport train or surface transport and check official updates.
