Contactless payment is available in vehicles displaying Visa/Mastercard logos. A rejected transaction is not a valid ticket.
Using a contactless bank card
- Find a compatible validator. Look for the contactless symbol and Visa/Mastercard marks.
- Tap your card, phone or watch. Wait for the device to process the transaction.
- Look for approval. Kapsch validators show “Călătorie plăcută!” (Have a pleasant journey); blue BCR devices show “APROBAT” (Approved). Keep the paper receipt if the machine prints one.
- Red screen or “DECLINAT”? Your payment has not been approved. Use another ticket method before continuing.
- If an inspector asks, present the same card/device used for payment or the receipt specified by STB.
Can I pay using an app?
STB lists the 24Pay and LETZ PAY apps. Depending on the selected ticket, the ticket activates after payment confirmation and the in-app QR code can be checked by inspectors. Check the current app rules before boarding.
How long is a surface-transport ticket valid?
The operator describes a 90-minute metropolitan ticket for surface transport. Metro ticket products and integrated tickets have separate rules. Do not assume your surface ticket also covers the metro.
What if you travel without a valid ticket?
STB currently lists an 80 RON surcharge collected by authorised inspectors. Confirm the current amount and rules at the operator website.
